The program was very intense and involved. For someone like myself who rarely uses the computer, it was a lot of information to digest. However, I at least have a basic understanding of the various technologies available and am now a little more familiar with the terminology. I am relieved that the program is over.

I have just viewed several of the recommended videos (the ones about libraries and books). I found them ridiculous. I will probably not use YouTube.

WPL Fun Things

I enjoyed seeing the pictures of the pets. We have a miniature daschund named Lucy who is almost 4 years old and she is adorable.

Wikis

I have just read and listened to the information about wikis. I didn't realize all the different uses of them. I found the library ones interesting, especially the WPL reference one, listing, among other things, autobiographies. As I discovered in previous assignments, though, sometimes too much information is not really very helpful and actually makes more work than necessary.

Future of libraries

I read the first three perspectives and found them interesting. Yes, the library has to keep up with change and be available to meet the needs of its patrons. However, I hope we never lose our personal connections with our patrons, especially the elderly or those not so technologically inclined. I, for one, enjoy the day-to-day personal interactions with our patrons much more than the computer.

I had an excellent information session with Anthony, who explained all the amazing things that can be learned with Del.icio.us. I found it interesting but, with my limited time on the computer each week, something that I probably wouldn't use. At least I know what it's about.

Twitter

After much convincing by Anthony, I have sent up an account to try Twitter. As I only use the computer at work for off desk tasks once a week, I know I will not use this service. I am currently 'following' 6 on Twitter and the amount of useless information is amazing. Some people must have too much time on their hands. This is not for me.

Library Thing

After some patient tutoring from Anthony, I have set up an account and catalogued a book. The amount of information received about one listing is incredible. Do people honestly have time for all this information? No wonder everyone is stressed.

I have just read all the discovery exercises about Twitter. This is definitely something I am not interested in. I did not set up an account as I have no time or interest for this foolishness.

Hawaiian beach

That being said, I hope one day to travel to Hawaii with my husband and explore the islands. Since our 25th anniversary has already happened, perhaps we can aim for our 30th!!

7 and 1/2 lifelong learning habits

This is the first time I am writing. It has been challenging enough for me to get to this point in the 25 Things program.

The habit I find easiest is Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind - determine the goal. Once I have established what the goal is, I like to break down the work that needs to be done to achieve this goal into manageable chunks that can then be spread over a set amount of time.

The habit I find hardest is Habit 6: Use technology to your advantage. I am not a technologically minded person and do not use the computer other than at work, so I find I generally will try to do things as simply as possible, without the use of the computer. I guess I was born in the wrong era!
